FIRES
ABC SERIES
ABC's FIRES was a series that showcased the stories of courageous individuals facing high-risk situations. Tony Ayre's productions collaborated with Dreamscreen to effectively bring these intense sequences to life, which could not have been filmed on location.

We brought to life the turnover sequence, Mallacoota wharf and simulated travel sequences, meaning the actors were safe, could focus on their performance whilst still reacting to the world around them.
Directors: Michael Rymer, Kim Mordaunt, Ana Kokkinos

Dreamscreen Partners: Tracklab & CVP
MIXING PRACTICAL SFX WITH VIRTUAL VFX
Fires is a great example of how practical special FX can be mixed with virtual VFX to create scale, depth and range.

BESPOKE SIMULATED TRAVEL
Whether you require day or night, country of city, our team can help get your production high quality simulated travel without the hassle of travelling outside of our studio!
SET EXTENSIONS
As part of the Mallacoota Wharf sequence, our team created a virtual set extension to save time and money when shooting the sequence that saw the wharf engulfed in smoke and haze.

BEHIND THE SCENES
Fires was a new and exciting challenge for Dreamscreen. Dreamscreen had the opportunity to spearhead two dramatic scenes from Fires, as well as several simtrav sequences throughout.

This video shows some behind the scenes clips of how Dreamscreen Australia were able to create a realistic but safe filming environment for this important project.

Big thanks to Tony Ayres and the crew who worked with us throughout production. Also, thanks to our partners at Tracklab, CVP, Xsens & Deakin Motion Lab.
BURNOVER SEQUENCE
Dreamscreen Australia were able to create a realistic but safe burnover sequence for one of the most nail-biting peaks of the series.

This included:
-
Research and development of previz concepts
-
Scanning and creating 3D assets
-
Blending practical effects (sparks) with virtual (fire/background)
-
Creating the 3D environment and fire simulations

MALLACOOTA WHARF
With the help of Tracklab, Dreamscreen were able to recreate the crowded Mallacoota wharf scene inside the studio. You'll see the wharf in its entirety in Episode 6.

The art departments wharf build was scanned and then Dreamscreen created a 3D clone that extended the set piece virtually for 9m, allowing production to reproduce the blood red skies and anxiety felt by all those stuck on the wharf during those frightening fires.
